Abundo Assumes Viga Mayoralty Post

Mayor Abelardo Abundo Sr. had assumed the post of Mayor of Viga, Catanduanes yesterday, May 9, 2006.

It will be recalled that the election protest filed by Mayor Abundo was decided by the RTC in Virac in his favor but Jose Torres, the Viga COMELEC proclaimed mayor, promptly filed an appeal with the COMELEC-Main in Manila which issued a TRO with Preliminary Injunction that allowed the latter to hold on to his post for a while.

The TRO had expired Monday, May 8, 2006.

As a result of the expiry, the duly elected mayor shall assume his post pending resolution of the appeal.
